i go and check out the big diesel blog on the regular and tonight  they had some motorcycle blogs spotlighted so i had to check'm out.  bike exif is a very cool bike blog and i highly suggest you take a peek at what they got over there.  this bike really does it for me, it has a great vintage motocross theme and i happen to be particular to hondas so there you go.  this is a great looking bike and a nice photo as well.

old news but new love

i saw this concept vehicle a couple of years ago when suzuki unveiled it at the 2007 auto show in tokyo. i liked it then, but i love it now.  c'mon suzuki, make it happen.

i just saw this beauty at pipeburn and am in deep deep love.  it was built by Nick Stringer from Metal Head Fabrication in California.  fantastic work.

rebuild under way

i have begun the tear-down of my xr100.  it ran strong but smoked like a train so it had to go under the knife.  it looks like i'm gonna have to split the cases and replace the rod bearings as well as top-end goodies. 

fortunately i had a helper.

i see this cool ride once a year while check'n out the cars at the heavy rebel weekender in downtown winston salem.  it touches a nice warm place inside.  awwww.

some great moto-x history

in 1976 there was an intense battle for the 125 national motocross championships and I was present for a bit of it.  i was eight years old and my cousin and hero of my youth was a contender for the title. my parents would pack up me and my older brother up in our 1971 subaru and we'd head for the racetrack.  mom and dad would sell jewelry they had made and my brother and i would wander through the pits meeting the other riders and dreaming of our own racing careers.

in those days, there was an old rule in the books which allowed a rider to place a claim on the winning motorcycle.  you had to present your claim to the AMA judge within thirty minutes of the checkered flag and have 2500.00 cash or certified check in-hand for the claim.  it was a leftover AMA dirt-trackers rule to keep the bikes competitive.  well on may 23, 1976 my cousin mickey laid claim to bob hannah's works yamaha and in doing so, played a major role in that years excitement.

"The AMA claiming rule was originally written for dirt track racing to keep the equipment fair in a sport that was relatively static as far as equipment was concerned at that time. It was written long before motocross had arrived and long before the Japanese factories were developing very expensive works bikes for research and development that was supposed to filter down to the companies production bikes."  "The price of some of the Japanese works bikes in 1976 was approaching the price of the National median home value of $44,000.00. The Type 2 Honda's probably exceeded that while a production 125 sold for less than $1000.00.  While all this was going on the claiming rule in the AMA rule book remained, in fact it was virtually forgotten until May 23rd 1976.

the above quotes are from the mx works bikes site as well as the picture of my uncle junior (dark shades) and cousin mickey(arm reaching into can).  the story of the 1976 season is exciting and very well told by key players in the saga.

wish rat truck

this is one of my buddy steve's creations, cab is a 47 ford, chassis is an 80 nissan truck and engine is a chevy straight six.  he has since sold it but you can find more details about this and his other weirdo vehicles here.  i love the stance of this truck.

some 2-wheeled concepts

NNN sketchbook page six.  i like the idea of a front wheel drive recumbant cycle like on top of sketch.  that suspended bicycle thing kills me! i'm not quite sure why i wanted the driving posture so upright on the middle/right drawing...i think it might be-cause standing up while riding a motorcycle is so much fun.  oooh and don't miss the little inline skoot-a-poot at the bottom. 

utilitarian truck

i drew this sometime in the late nineties...i really like the functionality of it.  so, its a normal cab pickup, the bed has fold-down sides to make into flat bed, and depending on use, "pods"could be locked in place behind the cab to make it a crew-cab, or covered cargo area, or both.  each pod has a door which mates with a door on the back of the cab, making a weather-tight seal.  truck is 4WD and trailer would be EV assist with 4WD as well.

gt550

this used to be my dads suzuki gt550 2 stroke triple.  it now is my buddy ryans.  ryan saved it from its ultimate demise in scrapdom...it had been in dozens of pieces for 20 years or more, the frame was buried in the bed of an old truck in the woods behind dads house and the engine was in his basement along with several crates of other parts.  the engine was locked up tight from years of loneliness.  many PBR's later  he was able to free the pistons where they were seized to the cylinders and still use the same rings!  she now starts of the first kick.

with 2 little ones, i feel the need for extra doors on your vehicle...but  dang its like my eyes are stutterin.

'ol 900

for my first post, you should meet 'ol 900. he's been the best truck anyone could ask for. an '80 f150 with 300 straight six and 4wd. pictured here loaded with about 1000 lbs of brick pavers and a bunch of insulation board. i love this truck.
